Wider Workforce Clinical Supervisor‘s Course and Foundation Doctor’s Supervision

The Northwest Wider Workforce Clinical Supervisors course is a free RCGP accredited 2-day virtually delivered course for GPs and Advanced Clinical Practitioners who are currently supervising or plan to supervise the wider workforce in the near future.

This course aims to run every month and is highly interactive with small group learning and will enable delegates to acquire and develop skills to supervise the wider workforce.

The wider workforce clinical supervisors course, in conjunction with NHS England now incorporates Foundation Doctors Supervision as an add-on module. This will include accreditation of your practice to take on foundation doctors. As a result the course has a full agenda on both days in addition to intermodular work.

  • General Practitioners and Advanced Clinical Practitioners (Level 7) interested in clinically supervising the wider workforce or taking on Foundation Doctors in their practice.

By the end of the course, delegates will:​

  • Knowledge of the disciplines they wish to supervise and how to identify their learning needs.​
  • Be able to structure a teaching session for a learner and be aware of basic teaching methods. ​
  • Be able to teach and assess workplace communication skills. ​
  • Understand discipline-specific assessments that may be required and how to complete them.​
  • Have developed their own learning plan related to their role as a supervisor.​
  • Be able to supervise a wide range of primary care workforce learners including Nurses, ACPs, Physician Associates, Paramedics and Pharmacists.
  • For GPs, if no issues, their practice surgery will also be accredited to take on Foundation year doctors on placement.

This course requires planning with everyone involved in delivering the course. We aim to run this course on a monthly basis where possible. If you miss out on a cohort you will have opportunities to join other future cohorts.
