After spending 10 years as Regional Director of a large Nursing Agency, I thought I would go into practice nursing as all I would do, would be sit, knit and drink tea and the odd blood pressure!! Little did I know what was to come? So in 2009 I joined SHM (Salford Health Matters) a community interest company formed in 2007 to support 3 previously failing GP practices in Salford. My ten hours developed into full time Lead Practice Nurse complete with new challenges and ideas created to improve patient’s outcome. By November 2014 we were rated Outstanding in every area by CQC and even got a write up in Nursing Standard and we managed to achieve CQC Outstanding again in 2019. Not wishing to stand still, and being passionate about nursing and education we started to look at how we could develop and upskill staff within practices and so developed a training arm of SHM. We made exciting partnerships with local University’s and colleagues across GM enabling us to be part of a career structure for staff within general practice . I now work within the Salford Primary Care Academy , this includes a GMTH role as Lead Nurse Educator for Salford and Trafford. I place and support students in practice and facilitate training for primary care across GM.
