Oral Health Training for Early Years Practitioners

This evidence-based learning tool has been designed to support and enable Early Years practitioners. The aim is to promote good oral health behaviours within their everyday practice and encourage families to do the same.

Tooth decay in children under five years in the North West of England is higher than the England average. Evidence based key oral health behaviours, if practiced from an early age, will reduce the risk of tooth decay and gum disease. The evidence based learning tool is designed to meet the training requirements for Early Years practitioners. This enables practitioners to include key oral health messages within their everyday practice to promote health and encourage families to practice good oral health behaviours at home.

The training is delivered in short and easy to understand training videos each of which takes no longer than 30 minutes to complete. We encourage staff to view and complete the first two videos and the 3rd is for use with parents/carers:

  • Oral Health Training for Early Years Practitioners
  • The Early Years Foundation Stage: Oral Health and How it Fits in to Practice
  • Top Tips for Looking After Your Child’s Teeth (for parents and carers)

Please complete the assessment to receive a training certificate.

We review all feedback to improve the training offer.
