The GM Social Care Academy and the Greater Manchester Training Hub have developed a list of training offers for non-clinically registered Adult Social Care Staff (though clinical staff are welcome to access them too). Some offers are freely available from other training providers, and some have been developed by the Social Care Academy with partners such as the GM Training Hub and Manchester Adult Education.

Making Every Contact Count (MECC)

MECC aims to help people make healthier choices. Supporting staff to engage in positive conversations about mental health and wellbeing with people they interact with every day. This training will enable you to deliver MECC for Mental Health. You will be required to go back to your workplaces and train your colleagues on the MECC for Mental Health approach.

Empowered Conversations provides a learning space for professionals to consider how they can improve their connections with people living with dementia.

Frailty and Falls

Frailty is a chronic condition related to the ageing process in which multiple body systems lose their in-built reserves. Older adults who are living with frailty are less able to cope when stressor events strike, such as acute illness. 50% of adults over 85 are thought to live with frailty in the United Kingdom (Age UK, 2022).

Optimal management of frailty requires a thoughtful, compassionate, and person-centred approach to the multifaceted underlying factors which are driving the frailty process.

Managing frailty can no longer be considered the preserve of geriatricians, thus it is necessary that all health care professionals working with older persons living with frailty, have good knowledge of managing frailty appropriately. This training focuses on identifying frailty, optimal management of frailty and the NHS strategies to help those living with frailty to live well.
